Each of us has unique experiences resulting from our external conditions and our inner and individual insights and perceptions.
My paintings reflect my view of myself and my gender in the context we find ourselves.
My paintings are the story of being a woman. Being a woman in a society where you have to experience the second place from birth, second sex.
My paintings are the story of women’s suffering. The story of sanctions, punishment, and rape. The story of being difficult.
I represent darkness and bitterness—the darkness in which I have been caught for no reason.
I paint lies, promises, injustices, and I paint the female world.
This may not be the experience of women worldwide, but the experience is my grandmother, my mother, and me.
My paintings are my unique experience of being a woman, of being a woman in Iran, of being a woman in Iran today.
