About me....
I am Zahra Maddah. Painter and native of Iran, a beautiful and distinct country in the Middle East.
I was fourteen when I realized I loved painting.
I used to draw flowers on blankets, carpets, and everything in the house on school papers and notebooks with a pencil.
When a relative who was a realist painter welcomed my designs, I was eager to continue working and bought pens, paints, canvas, and tripods and entered the world of painting.
An apple painting in a glass of water was my first painting.
Then I started copying other people’s paintings.
I graduated in the natural science field. Nevertheless, I knew that I would continue university with painting and not any other field.
In 2003, I completed my bachelor’s degree in painting and in 2018, my master’s degree in painting.
Painting has always been soothing in my life.
My words, protests, pleasures, and criticisms flowed through the painting.
When you are a woman and a woman in the Middle East, you will inevitably inherit this land, and your worries will take on the color and smell of current issues.
I am looking at a woman from a feminine point of view and talking about a woman through a woman’s tongue. Looking around with a feminine eye and all this in the culture and history of my country does not have much opportunity to present and therefore requires more effort. However, this opening up and shouting is so liberating and pleasant that it has become a significant part of my life over the years.
I mentioned women in my paintings, from myself, from fears and anger and worries, and of course, I said hope.
I have painted the world around me with a feminine perspective, nature, ancestral home, social issues, and current patriarchal relations.
I do not see art as a representation of transient beauties and pleasures but as a means of expression. Descriptive expression. Sometimes a protester, sometimes a critic, and sometimes a preacher of hope.
I consider my work to shed light on the darkness of history in modern life.
I invite you to review my work, and I will be happy to share your feelings, ideas, and opinions with me.
